11th ANNUAL CHICAGO “WING FEST” ANNOUNCES WINNERS AND
RAISES $6,000 MORE FOR TWO CHICAGO CHARITIES
(CHICAGO, IL) – On Sunday, February 28, 2010, the 11th Annual Chicago WingFest brought out over 2,000 Chicagoland chicken wing lovers for a fierce wing-eating extravaganza. Over 45,000 chicken wings were consumed in Bailey Auditorium, in the West Loop, whereby four Chicago establishments were crowned winners and two individuals, one male and one female, were crowned “Lord of the Wings”.
The following twenty-four Chicagoland restaurants participated in this year’s WingFest: Mahoney’s Pub & Grille, Anthem Grill, Crossroads, Reggie’s, Wings Around the World, Timothy O’Toole’s, Wild Goose Bar & Grill, Rack’em Up, District Bar, Jimmy V’s Sports Bar & Grill, Wool Street Grill & Sports Bar, Take Me Out, The Pony, Lottie’s Pub, Hi-Tops, Crosstown Pub & Grill, Redmond’s, High Dive, Chicago Joe’s, Gators Wing Shack, Bull & Bear, South Loop Club, Buffalo Wings & Rings and Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap.
Each establishment participated in two of their choice of the following categories: Mild Wings, Hot Wings, BBQ Wings and Exotic Wings. The following were proclaimed winners, in a double-blind judged competition: Best Mild Wing: Gator’s Wing Shack, Best Hot Wing: Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap, Best BBQ Wing: Buffalo Wings & Rings, Best Exotic Wing: Take Me Out and the coveted Best of the Fest: Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the female and male eating competitions to crown the “Lord of the Wings”. In each competition, a dozen people competed against each other in their gender class, to see who could eat the most wings in three minutes. In the female contest Danielle Young was victorious for the fifth year in a row! In the male competition, Eugene “The Asian Sensation” Jung reigned supreme as a newcomer.
To date, WingFest has raised over $120,000 for various charities, and this year’s WingFest netted $6,000 for Chicago Neighbors United, a community based organization which provides educational scholarships to inner city youth, and Neighbors of River West, a community minded organization that assists various neighborhood programs throughout the year.
