River Shannon’s Sidewalk Celebration:
64 Years of Being The Oldest Irish Pub in Chicago
(CHICAGO, IL) - Situated in a tightly knit Lincoln Park community at 425 West Armitage, River Shannon will be celebrating its 64th year of hospitality service in Chicago on Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 6pm to 3am.
Boasting one of the oldest liquor licenses in Chicago (number 28, to be exact), River Shannon is one of the most enduring neighborhood pubs in Chicago, and the oldest Irish Pub still in operation in the city. All of the regulars at this establishment share one thing: none of them can remember River Shannon ever not being there. Indeed River Shannon’s 21-35 year old crowd wasn’t even born when the Champagne bottle was broken across the pillar at her front door, when Harry Truman was President, Dr. Spock published his first baby book and the baby boom generation (most of the regular’s parents!) were waiting in the queue on opening day.
This year is special because it is a palindrome anniversary. River Shannon opened in ’46, and this is the 64th anniversary. 46/64. To that end, MGD 64 and Maker’s Mark 46 are sponsoring this event and giving out River Shannon keepsake shot glasses along with other swag! The featured drink specials will be $3 MGD 64 and $4 Marker’s Mark 46 cocktails.
Open to the public from 6pm – 2am, the event will be a celebration featuring live entertainment, fun, drinks and food. Staff will be dressed in 40’s attire as a tribute to the opening era, and attendees are encouraged to do the same, as well as take the mic and share a good River Shannon story with the crowd.
In addition, the “mystery film” seen being shot in a photo of the pub’s opening day is still being sought. “We want that film, and are offering $1946 dollars to get it,” Rob Dalton, General Manager of River Shannon, remarks. “We chose that amount in honor of the year the pub opened, of course.”
Anyone with the mystery film taken on opening day can bring it to River Shannon to claim the reward money on Saturday, August 21 or just come and partake in the celebration!
