CLEAR HONORARY CHICAGO CUBS BAT BOY RECOGNIZED FOR ACHIEVEMENTS WITH AFTER SCHOOL MATTERS®
WHO:
Edwin Martinez, CLEAR Honorary Chicago Cubs Bat Boy
WHAT: CLEAR [www.clearwire.com], a proud sponsor of the Chicago Cubs, has partnered with After School Matters, a non-profit organization which offers out-of-school time opportunities to Chicago teenagers, all of which are free to Chicago residents, to introduce teens to rewarding careers and help them develop marketable job skills, to recognize Edwin Martinez as an Honorary Chicago Cubs Bat Boy for his achievements in the After School Matters program.
WHY: Edwin Martinez is a 16-year-old Chicago teen from the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood who participated in After School Matters’ “Stadium Management” advanced apprenticeship program at Humboldt Park, taught in partnership with the Chicago Park District. In After School Matters’ apprenticeship programs, teens receive stipends as reinforcement of the accountability that comes with a job opportunity. Under the guidance of his instructor, Ramon Garcia, Edwin showed incredible leadership, responsibility and diligence throughout his experience as an After School Matters advanced apprentice, learning the fundamentals of maintaining Chicago Park District fields and stadiums, including Little Cubs Field in Humboldt Park. Edwin gained skills in everything from the basics of grounds keeping, sports field management, and proper care and maintenance of equipment; to budgeting, marketing and advertising. Edwin is also a huge Cubs fan.
After School Matters is a nonprofit organization that offers Chicago teens innovative out-of-school activities through its science37, sports37, tech37, words37 and nationally-recognized gallery37 programs. www.afterschoolmatters.org
