CHICAGOLAND AREA AFFILIATE OF SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE®

ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF GRANT FUNDS

(CHICAGO, IL) – Determined to save lives and end breast cancer forever, the Chicagoland Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is pleased to announce the availability of grant funds to ensure that breast cancer initiatives do not lose the momentum.  Grant funds will be available from the Chicagoland Area Affiliate for innovative projects in the following areas: breast health, awareness and education; breast screening and early detection; education concerning treatment of breast cancer; and survivor and family support programs.

“To meet the needs we have discovered right here in our community, this year’s grant slate specifically addresses making affordable, quality breast healthcare services accessible to underserved women,” said Michael Ziener of the Chicagoland Area Affiliate.

The Komen Chicago Affiliate is part of the 125-Affiliate network of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of volunteers and activists fighting to end breast cancer forever. The Affiliates are the face and voice of Komen for the Cure’s global breast cancer movement in communities around the world. Through local events and activities, the Komen Chicago Affiliate mobilizes and educates thousands of community members while raising funds to support community-based breast cancer programs.

Grants are available to non-profit organizations within the Chicagoland Area Affiliate Service Area:  Cook, Kane, DuPage, Lake and McHenry counties. Grant applications may be found at www.komenchicago.org .  Grant requests must be received no later than noon on Thursday, November 6, 2009.  Grant recipients will be notified by March 31, 2010.
